Mitchell Brian Eck

May 22, 1969 – Mar. 28, 2024

BELOIT – Mitchell Brian Eck, age 54, went home to be with the Lord on March 28, 2024, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born on May 22, 1969, in Beloit, Kansas to Melvin and Nancy Eck.

Mitch graduated from St. John’s High School, Beloit, in 1987. He and Tami Herbic were united in marriage on April 22, 1989.

After high school, Mitch took Diesel Mechanics at NCK Area Vocational-Technical School. After graduating in 1989, he worked at Shamburg Oil for about a year until he was hired at Cawker City Equipment as a service technician, later becoming service manager. He worked there until it closed and then went to work at Jewell Implement. In October of 2007, he began his teaching journey at the North Central Kansas Technical College, teaching Agriculture Equipment Technology II. Mitch, along with Doug Cox, was very passionate and eager to share their accumulated knowledge and experience with the students, wanting them to excel in their careers. In May 2019, while teaching, Mitch earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Career & Technical Education from Pittsburg State University, which he was very proud of. He always wanted to continue to learn and was not afraid to learn from others.

Mitchell was a beloved husband, sibling, uncle, friend, and teacher. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and love for others. He loved teaching his students, spending time with his wife, and with his two dogs, Abbie and Ella.

Mitch loved the outdoors. He worked for several different farmers throughout his lifetime, including Gerald Mc Murray and Dale Konzem. He also ran the motor grader for Turkey Creek Township for quite a few years. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He could often be seen walking his two dogs around the neighborhood or with Bill File fishing at a pond.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Ken Herbic, and his niece, Emily Eck.

He is survived by his wife Tami, of the home, brothers Mel (Tina), Michael, and Mark (Cherie), all of Beloit, mother-in-law, Paula, and her husband Larry Young, Deming, NM, and brother-in-law, Todd (Kimberlee) Herbic, Frederick, CO, nephew Chance Eck, and nieces Shelby (Kyle, and son Theo) Eck, Campbell Herbic and Brinley Herbic, great nephew Maverick Ryan (and dad Patrick). He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

There will be a luncheon at noon, at the First Christian Church of Beloit, Kansas, followed by a celebration of Mitch’s life, on April 6 at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Solomon Valley Hospice, Mitchell County Food Pantry, Rebecca A. Morrison House (Salina Regional Health Foundation), or the Hereditary Neurological Disease Center of Wichita, Ks.
