BHS participates in All-Star Marching Band
MANHATTAN –On Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, twenty six Beloit High School Band members traveled to Kansas State University in Manhattan to participate in the 3rd Annual All-Star Marching Band. Students are nominated by their band directors and are selected for this elite group by the faculty and staff at KSU based on their musical accomplishments and abilities. Students receive the music and marching drill approximately three weeks before the event. The Beloit students had several rehearsals prior to the All-Star weekend.
The Friday evening rehearsal was held from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The KSU band faculty and staff worked exclusively with the high school group for the majority of the rehearsal. They were later joined by several members of
The Pride, the KSU marching band, to conclude the evening.
Brooke Vetter graciously hosted the 26 members of the Beloit Band. The boys camped with Phil Vetter in the family camper in Brooke's driveway and the girls invaded her home with air mattresses and sleeping bags. Saturday morning, it was a true game day atmosphere with breakfast outside and frisbee in the streets until time to go to Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the early practice.
Saturday practice began at noon in the Indoor Practice Facility. The Pride and the All-Star Band then marched to BSFS for a two hour rehearsal. "Lunch" was served at 2:30 p.m. and the band members had down time. At halftime of the game, the All-Star Band performed "Sweet Child of Mine" complete with drill. They were then joined by The Pride to march and play "The Pretender". The Alumni Band then joined the group to stand and play "Think" and "Ain't Nothin' Wrong With That", followed by the traditional "Wabash Cannonball" and "Wildcat Victory." Following halftime, the All-Stars joined The Pride in the band section of the stadium to enjoy the college band experience, participating in the chants, cheers, and band tunes.
