Boost Ministries to host JJ Pizzifred benefit bake sale
BELOIT – Boost Ministries will be hosting a bake sale benefit for JJ Pizzifred starting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at their location on 120 N. Campbell Ave., Beloit.
At one month of age, JJ was diagnosed with biliary atresia, which is a rare disease in newborns. JJ needed a liver transplant due to the correcting procedure not working. Many hospitalizations ensued, but then got the call in February 2009 that he had a match. The surgery went well, and JJ's health was improving. Unfortunately, complications developed in 2010 when he contracted cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. Due to JJ being immuno-compromised, it made him very ill. The infection attacked his liver, causing him to go into rejection and he needed another transplant.
On Aug. 12 at around midnight the family received a call that they had a match. The surgery went well and JJ is gradually gaining strength.
JJ is a fifth grader at the Beloit Elementary, and resides with his mom, dad, and sisters.
All proceeds from the free-will donation benefit will go towards the Pizzifred family to help with extensive medical bills and accumulating expenses.
