Gun safety promoted at the fair
BELOIT – Through a collaboration to raise awareness on gun safety and gun handling/storage and grant funds received from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Injury Prevention mini-grant, Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation (MCRMF), Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department and Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems/Beloit Medical Center Trauma Committee launched a collaborative safety campaign during this years Mitchell County Fair.
Mitchell county citizens received the chance to enter a drawing for four gun safety cases that were given away by the Medical Foundation and collaborators after the fair.
Over 70 patrons were educated on gun safety and gun storage and took a quiz to be entered into the grand prize drawings. Additionally each patron received a gun locking device to take home and put into use creating a safer home environment for gun storage.
After the fair names were drawn by MCRMF and the sheriff’s department as four gun safety storage cases were awarded to: Greg Hanel (safe box), Alan Housh, ( gun case), Earl Waterman (safe box), and Jason Miner (electronic safe).
The collaborative team will launch a gun safety media campaign in August/September 2019 and will be giving away additional gun safety devices.
