Kresin relieved of St. John’s coaching duties
BELOIT – Longtime St. John's/ Tipton Coach Keith Kresin will not be renewed as the head football, girls basketball and track and field coach as recently announced.
Effective immediately, Kresin has been relieved of his duties in all of his head coaching positions at St. John's Catholic High School in Beloit. Kresin coached football, girls basketball and track and field for multiple seasons with the Blujays. His contracts will not be renewed for football and girls basketball in 2019-20 and he has been compensated for 2019 girls track and field but will not coach or be renewed.
Sources told KD Country 94 & Z 96.3 Sports that Kresin was asked to resign by St. John's administration, but he elected not to step aside.
"On behalf of St. John's and Tipton High Schools, we thank Keith Kresin for his years of service and dedication to support our student athletes.," said St. John's Catholic High School Principal Marcy Kee. "We wish Keith much success in his future endeavors."
Kresin spent the past 12 seasons as the head girls basketball coach, the past nine as the football coach and the previous three years as the track and field coach.
In 12 years coaching the Lady Jays basketball team, he registered a record of 218-63, picking up his 200th career win this past December. Since St. John's started their basketball cooperative with Tipton, they have gone 167-42 in nine seasons under Kresin, and qualified for the state tournament four times, including a 1A-DII State Championship in 2015. This past season, the Lady Jays went 19-3 overall and finished as the 1A Sub-State Runner-up in Clay Center.
Kresin went 51-36 in nine seasons of coaching the St. John's/ Tipton football team. After starting just 2-16 in the first two seasons (2010 & 2011), the Blujays turned things around and went 8-2 in 2012 and 11-1 in 2013 under Kresin. Their best finish was a Sub-State Runner-up in that 2013 season. St. John's/Tipton qualified for the 8-Man DII playoffs five times in the past nine seasons. They made it to the playoffs this past season, but finished with a 5-4 record. In all, Kresin has coached football in North Central Kansas for 21 seasons, spending 12 at Waconda East before the school closed following the 2002-03 school year. His overall record coaching football is 121-66.
Kresin was not available for a comment before this publication.
St. John's High School has not announced any coaching hires as of today.
