Lovewell Lake floods
SUPERIOR, Neb. – After recent heavy rains, the Nuckolls County Sheriffs department has issued several Flood Warnings in the Superior, Neb. area. Access to the Lovewell State park is now limited to Kansas Highway 14 to Z Road and then south on 250 road. The Webber Blacktop road and Y Road are currently closed due to flooding.
The Jewell County Sheriff's Office has also issued warnings and are stressing those to avoid these areas. "Do not attempt to drive across any road flooded with water. You don't know how deep it is and the road could be washed away under water. Turn around, don't drown."
The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for south central Nebraska and portions of north central Kansas including Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Rooks, Osborne and Mitchell counties for today (Friday) as a chance of thunderstorms return to Nebraska counties along and especially north of I80. A few storms could be severe with around 60 mph gusts and quarter size hail.
A fairly prolonged hot weather pattern is forecast for the region over the upcoming week, with heat index values between 100-104 degrees.
