Successful Lakefest ends in patriotic style
GLEN ELDER –Sun and temperature both cooperated for the first ever Lakefest activities on Saturday at Glen Elder State Park with approximately over 500 people in attendance.
Starting with the Lions Club Fun Run, 63 participants walked or ran on the Waconda Dam in the early morning hours. They included a family of five from Hudsonville, Michigan; and participants from ages 3 to 70. The Lions Club was very pleased with the increased number of participants in this year’s run.
Fundraiser activities for the Waconda Cultural Association were held starting in the afternoon. The Glen Elder State Park staff, along with Waconda Lake Camping Club members provided a yard games competition in the Osage Park area. Forty-four teams matched up to take home the trophy created by Roy Winkel of Winkel Mfg. Winners were Josh Schaefli and Doug Lierz. Competitions led up to the start of the Dueling Pianos performance in the evening by Heartland Dueling Pianos of Branson Missouri. A camper decoration traveling trophy was also won by Jim Wiles of Cawker City.
