FFA hosts Producers’ Night Out

The Beloit High School FFA was hosts to a “Producer’s Night Out” event on Thursday, as guest speaker, Kansas Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Beam, presented to those attending on how the Kansas Department of Agriculture plays a role for the state of Kansas. Right: Beam, originally from the Esbon area, talks with former classmate, Jeannette Luke and her husband Dr. Charles Luke of the Solomon Valley Veterinary Hospital in Beloit. The FFA event was held to thank producers for their contributions to the county, state, country and their industries they provide. Beam served as Senior Vice President for the Kansas Livestock Association, prior to his Governor appointed position.

City Attorney monitors bills in legislation

City of Beloit Attorney Kati Sehroeder reported during Wednesday’s City Council meeting, that there are two bills currently in the legislature she is monitoring. One deals with vacant property actions taken by cities and the other is sales tax exemptions. The general consensus of cities is that they would prefer local actions as opposed to statewide control of local matters, - City Manager, Jason Rabe, reported that the West side drainage project will have a pre-construction meeting on Feb, 7. Work will begin as soon as the weather permits. There should be minimal concerns with traffic obstruction.
