Long Stem Gardens continue in growth

BELOIT – Travel less than 10 minutes outside of Beloit and you will be greeted by the beauty of Long Stem Gardens, family-owned and lovingly-managed by Tristen and Ashley Long. With three acres of sprawling ground, you will find yourself surrounded by a picturesque farmstead. The red barn set against the backdrop of brilliant Kansas plains, and the charming Long Stem Studio are neatly nestled on the property.

The Mitchell County Fair begins for 4-H clubs on Monday with the judging of Visual Arts and Foods at 9 a.m. at the Beloit First Christian Church. A bake sale will follow at 10 a.m. in the lobby. On Tuesday, the Pet Show will take place at the 4-H fairgrounds building at 9 a.m. The public can enter any exhibits starting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the the 4-H Building. The horse show will begin at 9 a.m. and the judging of photography at 9:30 a.m. Judging of Horticulture, Flowers and Crops begins at 10 a.m. From 6-8 p.m. is the livestock check-in. Thursday continues with Rabbits and Poulty Judging at 8 a.m.; Spacetech, Woodworking, Electric, Welding, Entomology, Geology and STEM at 9 a.m. Judging of 4-H Posters, Notebooks, Banners, Food Displays at 9:30; Bucket Calf Judging at 10:30 a.m. and Beef Show at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, Judging of Swiine will take place at 9 a.m. and Sheep and Goats, 30 minutes after. The 4-H Style Revue will take place on the entertainment stage at 5:30 p.m. Saturday will end with the Round Robin at 9 a.m. and the 4-H & FFA Livestock Premium Sale at 5 p.m.

U.S. inflation reaches a new 40-year high

UNITED STATES – Prices in the Midwest Region, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), advanced 1.6 percent in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The food index rose 0.8 percent in June and the index for energy increased 12.3 percent. The all items less food and energy index advanced 0.5 percent. Within the all items less food and energy category, prices were higher over the month for shelter and used cars and trucks.
