MITCHELL COUNTY – The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin work on Monday, June 21 to replace the bridge on U.S. 24 over Brown Creek in Mitchell County. The bridge is located about 7.5 miles east of K-128.
BELOIT – Heat advisories continue as the National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for today (Friday) for Phillips, Smith, Jewell, Rooks, Osborne and Mitchell counties in Kansas and for portions of south central Nebraska.
BELOIT – Kady Toole, 16 year old author and illustrator from Washington, Ks, came to the Port Library in Beloit on Friday, June 11 to read her book, “Izzy The Cowgirl Corgi”, to the preschool children as part of the summer’s “Tails and Tales” program.
BELOIT – The 2021 Kansas Census results for Mitchell County, Kansas, according to the World Population Review, shows an estimated population of 5,717 with a growth rate of -2.24% in the past year according to the most recent United States data. Mitchell County is the 60th largest county in Kansas. The 2010 population was 6,336 and has seen a growth of -9.77% since this time. Several children and adults have been beating the heat while having fun at the Beloit City Pool as temperatures rise. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Mitchell county for today and tonight (Wednesday) as the heat index is to reach as high as 100-105 degrees extending into Thursday with slight chances of thunderstorms and wind gusts as high as 30 mph.
