Well permits in question during County meeting

Phil Murrow, Regional Water Hygiene officer, stopped by the Mitchell County Commissioners meeting Monday morning, Aug. 14, 2023, to discuss the question of whether or not it is possible for local governments to select which state guidelines they will observe and which they can ignore. As the Regional Hygiene officer, it is Murrow’s duty to ensure all local and state laws are followed in regard to water.

Extreme temperatures to return

Farmers continue to work ground as Mitchell County remains in partial D2 – Severe Drought and a D3 – Extreme Drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. After some cooler temperatures visited the area, they are forecast to now increase with no moisture in sight. According to the National Weather Service tomorrow (Thursday) will remain at a cooler 89 degrees with wind gusts of 20 mph before higher temperatures arrive on Friday at 95 degrees. Saturday is forecast for 105 degrees and Sunday at 104 degrees, Monday at 102 and Tuesday at 101. An electrical pole in the forefront of the tractor resembles a cross, giving hope during these extreme weather conditions.
