Lawrence Henry Moxter, 97, Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH – Lawrence Henry Moxter, 97, passed away Sept. 2, 2019 in Ellsworth, Ks. He was born August 26, 1922 in Cawker City, Ks to Henry and Hermina (Reling) Moxter. He married Helen Ann Gengler in Seneca, Ks on September 28th, 1946. Helen joined Lawrence on the family farm located east of Cawker City, Ks. Together they lived and worked raising their family and being active members in their church, schools and community.

In 1965, Lawrence and Helen moved to Ellsworth, Ks after being chosen as co-owners of the Moxter Agency, a Montgomery Ward Corporate Catalog Retailer. They enjoyed making new friendships and continued to be involved in their new community. Upon retiring, they moved to a farm outside of Ellsworth and enjoyed gardening and other activities. He never lost his passion for riding a tractor, as you would see him riding his Cub Cadet mowing the property frequently. "We had the best manicured ditches along the highway".

His humor was such a part of our family life when we were together. He was famous in the family for his "one-liner" comments. And no matter the season, you would see him in cut-off jean shorts year around. As a result of his attire, he became known as "SHORTS".

As a role model he stood for Integrity and Honesty and respected the value of every human being. It is now up to us to follow in his footsteps and carry on his legacy.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Livingston (Vincent) of Shoreline, Wa; son, Larry Moxter of Springfield, Va.; daughter, Beth Ptacek (Terry) of Pensacola, Fl.; son, Brad Moxter of Salina, Ks; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date with in charge.
