Beloit make history with 3A volleyball State 3rd place

Lady Trojans add new school record at 37-6

HUTCHINSON - The Beloit Lady Trojans made history on Friday and Saturday as they placed third at the 3A State volleyball championships to hang the first State banner at the Beloit Jr/Sr. High School, under the direction of Head Coach Brandy Paul, Assistant Coaches Terri Engelbert, Josie Burke and Steph Litton.

Beloit played 2-1 during day one of pool play to advance into the semi-finals on Saturday. They fell short to the Seed 1 Burlington team and defeated Hesston in the consolation game for third place, ending their season at 37-6, playing undefeated in the league at 12-0 for a NCAA League Championship and were the 2018 Sub-State Champions.

Beloit was Seed 2 going into Friday's Pool II play on the bottom bracket, along with Seed 3 Silver Lake (32-6); Seed 6 Belle Plaine (32-8) and Seed 7 Frontenac (31-10).

Pool I on the top bracket consisted of Seed 1 Burlington (37-3); Seed 4 Seneca-Nemaha Central (35-8); Seed 5 Hesston (30-7) and Seed 8 Hoisington (16-24).

The Lady Trojans defeated Frontenac in two repeating sets of 25-20.

Leading the Lady Trojans from behind the line was Karson Brown scoring 9 points followed by Jessica Meier with 7 points; Makenzie Travis and Shea Larson 4 points each; Sydney Barrett 1 point, 1 ace serve; Breezy Schroeder 1 point.

Leading Beloit at the net was Paige Goddard with 8 kills, 3 blocks; Barrett 1 kill, 4 blocks, 1 stuff; Meier 1 kill, 2 blocks; Travis 1 kill, 1 block; Larson 3 blocks, 1 stuff; Trinity Wagner 2 blocks, 1 stuff.

Schroeder led on the floor with 9 digs, 24 serve receives; Brown 9 digs, 18 receives; Meier 4 digs, 13 receives; Barrett 2 digs, 16 receives; Travis 1 dig, 10 receives; Larson 1 dig, 3 receives.

Beloit defeated Belle Plaine in game two in two sets of 25-21 and 25-16.

Travis led the ladies in scoring with 14 points, 2 ace serves; Schroeder 3 points, 1 ace; Barrett 2 points, 1 ace; Brown, Meier and Larson 2 points each.

Larson led at the net with 9 kills, 2 blocks, 1 stuff; Goddard 7 kills, 3 blocks; Meier 2 kills, 3 blocks; Barrett 2 kills, 2 blocks, 1 stuff; Hanna Pearson 1 kill, 3 blocks, 1 stuff; Travis 1 block.

Meier and Travis teamed up on setting up the plays with 15 and 11 assists.

Schroeder added 5 digs and 10 serve receives; Brown 5 digs, 12 receives; Barrett 1 dig, 15 receives; Travis 3 digs, 11 receives; Meier 16 receives; Barrett 1 dig, 15 receives; Goddard receives; Larson 1 dig.

Trojans fell short to Silver Lake in game three in two sets of 21-25 and 20-25 to finish in second place their pool play.

Leading the team from behind the line was Meier scoring 4 points with 1 ace serve; Barrett 3 points; Travis and Schroeder 2 points each; Larson 1 point, 1 ace; Brown 1 point.

Goddard led at the net with 4 kills; Barrett 3 kills; Trista Boeve 4 kills; Larson 2 kills, 2 stuffs; Pearson 1 kill, 1 stuff; Travis 1 block, 1 stuff; Meier and Wagner 1 stuff each.

Meier and Travis teamed up on setting up the plays with 8 and 6 assists.

Travis led the floor with 4 digs, 22 serve receives; Brown 4 digs, 15 receives; Barrett 2 digs, 14 receives; Meier 1 dig, 12 receives; Schroeder 7 digs; Larson 7 receives.

Saturday, Beloit began facing the day to the number one seed Burlington team in the semi-finals. The Trojans fell short in two sets of 23-25 and 22-25 to place them in the consolation game

Leading the team in scoring was Meier with 6 points, 1 ace serve; Brown 4 points; Travis and Barrett 2 points; Schroeder and Larson 1 point each.

Larson led the team at the net with 13 kills, 1 block; Barrett 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 stuffs; Wagner 5 kills, 2 blocks, 1 stuff; Boeve 3 kills; Goddard 1 kill; Meier 1 block, 2 stuffs.

Meier led on setting up the plays with 19 assists followed by Travis with 10.

Schroeder led on the floor with 6 digs, 19 serve receives; Barrett 4 digs, 29 receives; Travis 4 digs, 13 receives; Brown 3 digs, 10 receives; Meier 3 digs, 7 receives; Larson 4 receives; Goddard 2 receives; Wagner 1 receive.

Beloit defeated Hesston for the 3rd place win in two sets of 25-15 and 25-20.

Leading the team from behind the line was Larson scoring 11 points with 2 ace serves; Meier 7 points, 1 ace; Schroeder 4 points; Travis and Brown 2 points each.

Larson led at the net with 12 kills, 1 block, 3 stuffs; Barrett 3 kills, 4 stuffs; Wagner 3 kills, 3 blocks; Travis 2 kills, 1 block, 3 stuffs; Goddard and Boeve 2 kills apiece; Meier 1 stuff.

Meier held strong on setting up the plays with 17 assists followed by Travis with 7 assists.

Schroeder covered the floor with 5 digs, 19 serve receives; Brown 5 digs, 13 receives; Barrett 3 digs, 13 receives; Travis 2 digs, 11 receives; Meier 1 dig, 5 receives; Larson 1 dig.
