Eilert wins CC championship at Beloit Invite
BELOIT – The St. John's Blujays Cross Country teams participated in the Beloit Invitational on Thursday, Oct.
3. Other teams participating included Abilene, Beloit, Bennington, Concordia, Ell-Saline, Lakeside, Lincoln, Minneapolis, Tescott, Osborne, Phillipsburg, Plainville, Republic Co., Sacred Heart, Smith Center, Southern Cloud, Stockton, Superior, Neb., and Sylvan Unified.
The first varsity race of the day was the girls. The Lady Jays’ team was led by Jane Letourneau in 9th place with a time of 21:21, followed by Lizzie Meyer in 27th place, Amy Lutgen in 50th and Sarah Gunderson in 51st.
The Blujay boys were led by Caleb Eilert with a first place finish in 16:17 followed by Ben Thompson in 34th, Braden Dameron in 41st, Jacob Gengler in 67th, Cabyn Winkel in 75th and Eric Platter in 81st. Sergio Lopez competed in the junior varsity race.
“Everyone had a great race today” said Coach Ben Letourneau. “The weather was beautiful and Beloit is a great course. Coach Mason was able to make some adjustments because of the wet conditions from the rain earlier this week. Jane had a good race with a close finish but was just edged out at the end by Jaylyn Wiese of Tipton. Caleb had a great race coming in 47 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Almost everyone had a personal best time for the season.”
Next up the Blujays travel to Leonardville for the Riley County Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12.
