St. John’s track teams compete in Rock Hills Invite
MANKATO – The St. John's track teams competed in the Rock Hills Invitational track meet on May 3 in Mankato. The Blujay boys placed fourth overall as a team scoring 75 points. Smith Center won the meet with 131 points followed by Northern Valley with 84 and Republic County with 77. Others placing included 5. Hanover 74.5; 6. Washington County 39; 7. Thunder Ridge 23; 8. Linn 16.5; 9. Lakeside 11; 10. Tipton Catholic 10; 11. Pike Valley 6; 11. Southern Cloud 6; 13. Stockton 3; 14. Rock Hills 2
St. John's boys earned 5 gold, 2 silver, 1 fourth, 2 fifth and 1 sixth place.
Gold medalists were Brandon Bates in the 800m run with a time of 2:07.19, in the 1600m run with a time of 4:51.11and in the 3200m run with a time of 10:56.45; Brady Palen in the high jump with a clearing of 6' 6" and in the long jump with a distance of 20' 8".
Placing second were Kail Dubbert in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.06; the 4x800m relay team of Brandon Bates, Braden Dameron, Kail Dubbert and Brayden Perez with a time of 9:19.95.
Fourth place went to the 4x100m relay team of Brady Palen, Brayden Perez, Braden Perez and Blake Perez with a time of 47.25.
Placing fifth were Kail Dubbert in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.79; the 4x400m relay team of Kail Dubbert, Blake Perez, Braden Dameron and Ben Thompson with a time of 3:49.28.
A sixth place went to Brayden Perez in the 100m dash in 12.00.
The Lady Jays placed sixth overall as a team with 57 points. Others placings included: 1. Lakeside 69; 2. Smith Center 67; 3. Hanover 64; 4. Northern Valley 63; 5. St. John's 57; 6. St. John's 57; 7. Republic County 45; 8. Tipton Catholic 39; 9. Thunder Ridge 36; 10. Pike Valley 20; 11. Linn 10; 12. Rock Hills 8; 13. Southern Cloud 7; 14. Stockton 6; 15. Palco 3.
Lady Jays earned 1 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze medals, 1 fourth and 1 sixth place.
Gold medalists was Lauryn Dubbert in the javelin with a throw of 127'.
Silver medals went to Kara Eilert in the shot put with a throw of 33' 8.50"; Lauryn Dubbert in the pole vault clearing 9' 6"; Elle Eilert in the long jump at 15' 10".
Bronze medalists were Elle Eilert in the 400m in 1:03.73 and in the triple jump at 33' 4"; Lauryn Dubbert in the 300m hurdles in 51.57.
A fourth place went to Kara Eilert in the discus at 87' 6".
Placing sixth was Lauryn Dubbert in the 100m hurdles in 17.96.
St. John's boys won the Northern Plains League meet held in Mankato on Thursday with 100 points.
The Lady Jays placed third overall with 66 points.
Both teams will now prepare for the Regional track meet to be held on May 17 in Washington.
