SHAWNEE - Al Schoen, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at his home in Shawnee, Kansas. He was born on December 24, 1942, in Holton, Kansas, to Eldon and Lucille (Emmot) Schoen. Al married Carolyn Elisabeth (Meats) Schoen on December 27, 1965, at First United Methodist Church in Beloit, Kansas. They were married for 55 years.

Al graduated from Beloit High School (Kansas) and earned his Bachelor’s & Master’s Degree in Education from Fort Hays State University. He served in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years. He started his education career in Ellis, Kansas, before coming to Pratt USD 382 to work as a teacher and coach for the Greenbacks. Upon retirement, Al continued instructing driving classes for AARP. He enjoyed playing golf, pool, and ping pong. He also enjoyed gardening and watching any sport, especially his grandkids’, K-State, Royals and Chiefs. He enjoyed many summers relaxing at Table Rock Lake.

He is survived by his children, Spence and wife Joan of Kansas City, Missouri, Lance Schoen of Lenexa, Kansas, Shelli Gill and husband Mike of Baytown, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Schoen of Manhattan, Kansas, Jaxon Schoen of Lenexa, Kansas, and Andrew Gill of Baytown, Texas; sister, Rose Smith of Holton, Kansas; brother-in-law, Bob Meats of Beloit, Kansas, and daughter-in-law, Becca Schoen of Lenexa, Kansas.

Al is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn; brother, Gary; and sister-in-law, Vicki Meats.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation with family will be Monday, November 25, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, Kansas. A Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, Kansas, with John Hamm presiding.
