Posted

Mitchell County, Kansas — The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is renewing its appeal to the public for information in the ongoing homicide investigation of Gary L. Nelson, who was shot and killed inside his rural Beloit, Mitchell County, residence in the early morning hours of December 18, 2009.

Investigators have recently obtained new information and additional evidence in the case. As a result of continued investigative work, including the review of previously collected materials and followup interviews, the case remains active and is being aggressively pursued.

As part of the continued investigation, physical evidence recovered from the scene has been re-examined and submitted for forensic analysis. That analysis has yielded significant findings that are advancing the investigation.

Investigators are not revealing the specific nature of those findings at this time in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing case.

Investigators are now asking anyone with knowledge of the events surrounding Mr. Nelson's death no matter how insignificant it may seem to come forward. We believe there are individuals in the community who possess additional knowledge about what occurred before, during, or after Mr. Nelson's death.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who has information regarding the following:

◦ Any statements or admissions made by individuals concerning the death of Gary Nelson.

◦ Any other information that may assist investigators.

◦ Anyone who possesses information, no matter how minor it may seem, contact investigators.

Information can be provided by contacting Deputy Collin Todd at 785-738-3523 or email Ctodd@mitchellcountyks.gov and/or Special Agent Christine Reglin at KBI Help Desk 785-296-8200.
