BELOIT – Cylene Bernadette Hewitt, 88, of Beloit, Kansas, passed away on June 28, 2025, at Mitchell County Hospital.
She was born on January 23, 1937, at her family’s home south of Beloit, Kansas, to John and Clara (Auer) Peters. Cylene married Donald Neil Hewitt on November 28, 1956. Together, they raised four children, who were their pride and joy.
A lifelong resident of the area, Cylene embraced her love of music from a young age. She was a talented musician who played the organ, piano, guitar, and zither, and was often asked to perform as a vocalist at weddings in her younger years.
Cylene’s creativity extended beyond music. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting glass bottles and salt & pepper shakers, and crafting barbed wire art alongside her husband. He would bend the wire, and she would shape it into beautiful creations, which they often gifted or sold at shows. She also had a passion for gardening, particularly her flower beds after moving to town.
Cylene took great pride in coordinating an annual Arts & Crafts Show at St. John's High School for many years. While residing at Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home, she found joy in handing out candy to friends, visitors, and especially the staff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents; her son, Ronald Hewitt; siblings John D. Peters and his wife Charlotte, Mary Sellers, Paul Peters, and Josephine Gengler and her husband Noel, Max Peters; brothers-in-law Jim Hunter, Larry Hewitt, Robert Hewitt; and great-granddaughter Alyssa Urban.
She is survived by her children Carol Lea Hewitt, Renee Lyn (Garrett Soden) Hewitt-Soden, and Ryan Neil Hewitt; grandchildren Erin (Jeremy) Urban, Amanda Maish, Westin Mash, Lakin Soden, and McKason Soden; great-grandchildren Sean Urban and Natalie Urban; brother, Richard (Glenda) Peters; sisters, Roberta Gengler and Rita Hunter; sisters-in law Geraldine Hughes, Charlene Hewitt and Connie Hewitt; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
