TIPTON – John Joseph “Jack” Pahls, 88, passed away on February 27, 2025 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. Jack was born December 16, 1936, the youngest of 10 children born to Adolph and Margaret (Ketter) Pahls of Tipton.

Jack graduated from Tipton High School, and following military service, he returned to Tipton, working for a short time at the local Co-op station and also in farming with his brother, Wilfred.

Jack and Gwendolyn Arnoldy were united in marriage on May 1, 1965 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, and made their home in Tipton. This year would have been their 60th year of marriage, and together they raised four children.

Jack was a farmer and cattleman all of his life, and retired in the last few years, turning his farming operation over to his sons to continue on with. In his retirement, Jack enjoyed making woodworking projects, going fishing, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows and KU sports on TV, and family get-togethers with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His greatest joy was in going to morning coffee everyday at the local elevator, where he loved to visit, reminisce, and tell stories with all of his local farmers and friends. These friendships he had at morning coffee is truly what kept him going and gave him something to look forward to everyday.

Jack was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, and the Tipton Knights of Columbus, and served on the local school board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marian Pestinger, Margie Schmeidler, and Mary Beth Gerard; and brothers, Edward, Adolph Jr., and Wilfred.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen; children, Lonnie Pahls, Lora Barker and husband Rod, Linda Weisel and husband Richard, and Loren Pahls and wife Laura, all of Tipton; along with grandchildren, Chase Barker and wife Kenda, Delaney Ziegelmeier and husband Jay, Reganne Barrett and husband Grant, Kaden Barker and wife Kylia, Casey Weisel, December Gier and Emma, Clara, and Montana Griffiths; and great-grandchildren, Brinlee, Kash & Lilee Barker, and Myla Barrett. He is also survived by his brother, Walter Pahls, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Pahls of Salina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, March 4 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A parish rosary service will be held at 9:30 AM at the Church preceding the funeral. Interment will follow services at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Tipton.
