TOPEKA – Meeka Jordan, of Beloit, traveled to Topeka Kansas to compete in the Missouri Valley District Qualifier the first step in her journey in getting back to the AAU Jr. Olympics held in Houston Texas this year.
The meet was held at Hummer Sports Park. Athletes may compete in 1 of 2 Districts meets if they live in Kansas including the West 1/2 of Missouri. Athletes may not compete in both AAU District meets the other one being held in Peculiar Missouri.
Jordan competes for the Raptor Speed Academy out of Wichita Kansas.
The weather was great except for a brief shower about 12 noon. Jordan, age 11, competed in the 11-year-old only division. Her first event of the morning was the 1 k discus at 8am throwing a PR of 61’11” for the Gold medal. In AAU 11 is the first year for discus throwing so this is Jordan’s first year in this new event. Her next event was 400-gram Turbo Javelin. She earned the Gold Medal with a throw of 85’11” a PR in the 400 grams. Her last event of the day was the Shot Put. She threw a PR of 26’5”.
The top 16 placers advance to the next level which is the Region 16 Championships that include Kansas, Oklahoma. Arkansas, and the West 1/2 of Missouri. The Region 16 Championship is held in Springfield, Missouri this year.
