Karen Jo (Shull) Sanders, 73, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on Oct. 25, 2024. She was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Beloit, Kansas, to Joseph and Zola Shull. Karen married Jerry Sanders on Sept. 20, 1970. Together, they raised their kids, John Sanders and Krista Howard.
Karen was a devout Christian and was strong in her faith and her favorite Bible passage was “Count it Pure Joy” from James 1:2-4. She retired from American Airlines in 2009. She was an avid sewer and quilter and made many quilted gifts for her family and friends. She loved gardening, especially watching her iris garden bloom every year. Karen and Jerry had a fondness for buying and selling houses. In their 54 years of marriage, they owned 15 houses throughout Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas. They took many memorable trips together and always loved playing cards and watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers win.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Sanders; her son, John (Shannon) Sanders; her daughter, Krista (Jeff) Howard; her sister, Marilyn Evans; her brotherin- law, Gary (Gliceria) Sanders; grandchildren, Jacilyn (David) D’Alessandro, Kyla Howard, Joshua Sanders, Kadey Howard, Paige (Evan) Fuhrmann, Joel Philpott; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Connor and the anticipated Riley Jo Elizabeth due on Karen’s birthday this year; her very special niece, Sheri Sanders; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Zola Shull, her brother, Alan Shull, and brother-inlaw, Michael Evans.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In lieu of funeral services, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
