Lady Jays end season as 2025 Sub-State Runners-Up

TESCOTT – The St. John’s/Tipton Lady Jays basketball team ended their season as the 1A, Division II, Substate Runners-Up, after their loss to Linn (14-6), on March 8, 2025. The Lady Jays finished with a 13-7 season record.

It was a close opening quarter as Linn outscored the Lady Jays by just 15-12, but the 11-4 scoring by Linn held them ahead of the game at 26-16 at halftime. Both teams scored evenly in the third quarter, 7-7, as Linn extended their 10 point lead, 33-23. Linn outscored in the final quarter, 19-12, for the Sub-State Championship 52-35 win.

Lynelle Gengler led the Lady Jays scoring in the first quarter with 8 points off three field goals and 2 free shots followed by teammate senior, Carlie Brummer with 4 points off a field goal and two free shots, as the team trailed in the Linn 15-12 lead.

St. John’s/Tipton was held to only 4 points scored in the second quarter with Ava Brummer and Christiana Niewald scoring 2 points each. Linn led 26-16 at halftime.

Lynelle Gengler added 3 points in the third quarter with a field goal and a bonus point. Kendra Gengler and Carlie Brummer both added field goals for 2 points each as the Lady Jays trailed by 10 points, 33-23.

Lynelle Gengler added 6 points in the final quarter with a field goal and shot 4-6 from the free throw line. Ava Brummer landed a 3 point shot and Carlie Brummer added a field goal and free shot for 3 points. St. John’s/Tipton ended as Sub-State Runners-Up as Linn won the game, 52-35.

Lynelle Gengler led the Lady Jays scoring with 17 points. Carlie Brummer scored 9 points; Ava Brummer 5 points; Kendra Gengler and Christiana Niewald 2 points each.
