Lady Jays win over Thunder Ridge

TIPTON – The St. John’s/Tipton Lady Jays were host to Thunder Ridge on Feb. 4, and won over the Lady Longhorns, to up their season to 11-6. They will now face Stockton on Feb. 14, on the road. The Lady Tigers are 10-6-2 on the season, and lost to Thunder Ridge, 37-34, to open their season.

Against Thunder Ridge, the Lady Jays scored 18-8, for the early first quarter lead. They outscored 12-5 in the second quarter for the 36-13 halftime lead. St. John’s/Tipton outscored 12-11 in the third quarter for the 48-24 lead. Thunder Ridge outscored 16-12 in the fourth quarter, and the Lady Jays held for the 60-40 win.

Lynelle Gengler and Christiana Niewald both led in the first quarter, scoring 5 points each off two field goals and a free shot. Carlie Brummer scored 4 points off two field goals. Kendra Gengler and Ava Brummer both contributed 2 points each off field goal shots. The Lady Jays led 18-8.

Carlie Brummer dominated the second quarter, scoring 10 points off five field goals. Lynelle Gengler scored 4 points off a field goal and two free shots. Ava Brummer and Ava Wiles both scored 2 points off field goals. St. John’s/Tipton led 36-13 at halftime.

Lynelle Gengler led in the third quarter scoring 7 points off three field goals and a free shot. Carlie Brummer and Zelie Horinek added field goals for 2 points each and Addison Bergmann landed a free shot for 1 point. The Lady Jays extended their lead, 48-24.

Carlie Brummer landed three field goals and two free shots for 8 points in the final fourth quarter. Kelsey Ohnsat and Jaedyn Arnoldy both contributed 2 points each off field goals. St. John’s/Tipton Lady Jays won over Thunder Ridge, 60-40.

Carlie Brummer led the Lady Jays on the boards, scoring 24 points followed by Lynelle Gengler 16 points. Christiana Niewald scored 5 points; Ava Brummer 4; Kelsey Ohnsat, Kendra Gengler, Jaedyn Arnoldy, Zellie Horinek and Ava Wiles all scored 2 points each; Addison Bergmann 1 point.
