BELOIT – The Mitchell County Soil Conservation banquet was held on Jan. 26, 2025, at the Fort Hays Tech | North Central College, Severance Student Union. The tables were full and stomachs were full as well with excellent food provided by the college.
Gerald Johnson provided the invocation before the meal and Mitchell County Conservation District Vice Chairman, Fred Severance, followed with calling the meeting to order. The 2024 Annual minutes and treasurer’s report were approved and Calvin Adams was voted in as a retained board member. Mitchell County Conservation District Poster contest winners were announced by Mitchell County Conservation District Manager, Amanda Johnson, and awards were provided to them.
Blaire Todd, of Post Rock Extension, and Derek Newlin, of Guaranty State Bank, provided the Bankers Award information and presentations, which included: Soil Conservation Award: Greg & Annabeth Nicholson; Water Quality Award: Erick and Buffy Kadel; Energy Conservation Award: Solomon Valley Veterinary Hospital (not present); Windbreak Award: Chris LeSage (not present).
The Carl Jordan Friend of Conservation Award was presented to Marvin Brobst. “He has a mind of a scientist and a heart of a farmer,” said Severance.
The St. John’s Catholic High School Envirothon team ended the banquet, speaking on behalf of their summer trip to New York. See more on the back page.
