KANSAS – The Smoky Valley Home Educators (SVHE) recently claimed the Kansas Christian Basketball Association State Championship played in McPherson.
Karlie Smith, a junior from Jewell, Ks., was named as a First Team All-tourament player. She was also named Most Valuable Player.
The SVHE team also captured the National Division II Homeschool Basketball tournament Championship, held in Salina on March 6-8. A total of 88 teams from junior high to high school varsity, were featured teams that traveled from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Smith helped lead her SVHE team to both of these championships and an overall season record of 23-4.
Smith had a tremendous junior campaign, averaging 25.5 points per game; 8.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals, and also achieved a career high of 40 points in a game against Reno County. She also surpassed a 1,000 point mark on the season.
