St. John’s/Tipton boys fly past the Knights, 70-37

Horinek scores big with 32 points for the Jays

LINCOLN – The St. John’s/Tipton Blujay boys faced Lakeside on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in the Northern Plains League tournament and defeated the Knights, 70-37 to advance in Friday’s game against Lincoln.

The Blujays outscored 23-10 for the early first quarter lead. They scored 13-4 to extend their halftime lead, 36-14. The Jays continued to outscore in the third quarter, 25-12 for the 61-26 lead. With using the Blujay bench in the fourth quarter, Lakeside scored 10-9, and St. John’s/Tipton won over the Knights, 70-37.

Edward Horinek led the boards in the first quarter scoring 10 points off five field goals. Tyson Gates scored 6 points off three field goals, and Grant Goodaker landed a field goal and a trey for 5 points. Gabriel Roderick scored 2 points, for the first quarter 23-10 lead.

Horinek led in the second quarter scoring 7 points off three field goals and a free shot. Dominic Eilert landed two field goals for 4 points and Nicholas Niewald landed a field goal for 2.  The Blujays extended their halftime lead, 36-14.

Horinek continued to be hot on his shot scoring 15 points in the third quarter with three field goals and three treys. Roderick scored 5 points off a three point shot and a field goal as the Jays led 61-26.

Carson Thomas scored 5 points in the fourth quarter off a three point shot and a field goal. Dominic Eilert added 4 points off two field goals, and St. John’s/Tipton won the game, 70-37, over the Knights.

Edward Horinek led on the boards with 32 points. Dominic Eilert scored 8 points; Gabriel Roderick 7; Tyson Gates 6; Carson Thomas and Grant Goodaker 5 points each; Kaden Rabe 3; Nicholas Niewald and John Mick 2 points each.
