St. John’s/Tipton boys up season with Thunder Ridge win

TIPTON – The St. John’s/Tipton Blujay boys were host to Thunder Ridge on Feb. 4, at Tipton, and won over the Longhorns, to up their season to 13-3. The Jays will now travel to Stockton on Feb. 14. The Tigers are 5-13 on the season and lost to Thunder Ridge to open their season, 60-36.

Against Thunder Ridge, the Blujays took the early 35-18 lead in the first quarter. They outscored 17-7 in the second quarter for the 52-25 halftime lead. It was a close scoring third quarter, with the Longhorns outscoring 18-17 with the St. John’s/Tipton, 69-42 lead. Thunder Ridge outscored 20-8, in the final quarter but the Blujays won the game, 77-63.

Edward Horinek led the first quarter, scoring 12 points off 6 field goals followed by Gabriel Roderick with 11 points off three field goals, a trey and two free throw points. Grant Goodaker scored 9 points off three treys and Tyson Gates landed a three point shot, as St. John’s/Tipton at 35-18.

Kaden Rabe led the second quarter landing a field goal and a three point shot for 5 points. Nicholas Niewald landed two field goals for 4 points. Horinek and Goodaker both landed 3 point shots, and Roderick added a field goal for 2 points. The Blujays ended the first half with the 52-25 halftime lead.

Horinek led the third quarter with 7 points off two free shots, a field goal and a three point shot. Gates added 4 points off a field goal and two free shots. Goodaker, Niewald and John Mick all landed field goals for 2 points each, as the Blujays led, 69-42.

Henry Holdren led the fourth quarter scoring with 5 points off a three pointer and a field goal. Kaden Phillips added a 3 point shot of his own, as the game ended in St. John’s/Tipton’s favor, 77-63.

Edward Horinek led St. John’s/Tipton in scoring with 22 points followed by Grant Goodaker 14 and Gabriel Roderick 13 points. Tyson Gates scored 7 points; Nicholas Niewald 6; Kaden Rabe and Henry Holdren 5 points each; Kaden Phillips 3; John Mick 2.
