BELOIT – Doris Marie Kindscher, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and cherished grandmother (Oma) and well respected lifelong resident of Beloit, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 99, on September 7, 2026. Born on January 23, 1927, in the Mitchell County Hospital, to Mabel and Orville James, Doris was the first of four children, sister to Maxine, Ila, and brother Gerald. Doris attended a one-room schoolhouse just west of Beloit for grade school. She attended Beloit High School where she met her future husband, Jacob John Kindscher III. Upon graduation, she and her friend, Billie, moved to Denver for college.
Doris returned to Beloit and married John in Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with four children, JJ, Ann, Jim and Joe. After John’s untimely passing at the early age of 43, Doris continued on bravely to raise her children and carry on with her life.
Throughout the years, Doris remained an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church, helping whenever called and hosted many 80th birthday breakfast celebrations. She was dedicated to her community and a volunteer and generous supporter of numerous charities and local projects, including the Mitchell County Tourism Development Authority. She became a self taught, but avid baker, known for making sweet breads, including her delicious orange rolls and most especially her famous Swedish tea ring, which she made in abundance during the holidays, and often had her young son Joe deliver them to friends, family and neighbors. Doris was a respected bridge player as well as a popular dance partner. As time went on, Doris became enamoured with traveling, going on numerous bus tours and cruises with friends and family trying to see as much of the country and world as she could fit in. But, she especially enjoyed a weekly drive with Joe to the family farm to check on the crops or up to Lake Waconda.
Known as “Oma” to her family, she was the feisty but dedicated grandmother supreme, adored by all. She became the vacation planner for her entire family, organizing and planning annual family reunions for all of her children and grandchildren to meet at numerous fun resort locations over the course of fifteen plus years. Her grandchildren loved to help her choose the destinations and always looked forward to these annual trips to get together with their Oma, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. This was exactly her intent, to get the entire family together to strengthen the relationships and perpetuate her family ties. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her family grow and staying an integral part of her kids’ lives, entertaining and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was the most treasured possession in her life, bringing her endless joy and happiness.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband John, her sister Ila, brother Gerald and sadly, just recently, her youngest son, Joe. She is survived by her sister Maxine, her three children; Jacob John Kindscher IV of New Orleans, Ann Kindscher Innis of Santa Fe, and James Kindscher of Kansas City, plus eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren. She left us with countless unforgettable memories and will be greatly missed by her family and all who had the good fortune to know and love her.
A memorial service in remembrance of Doris will be held at Roberts Family Funeral Service at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations to honor Doris’ memory should be given to Zion Lutheran Church. Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
