Brian Ward Hogan, 80, Beloit

BELOIT – Brian Ward Hogan was born Sept. 13, 1941 in Beloit, KS, to Lester (Hap) Hogan and Charlotte Ward and passed away following a stroke Sept. 11, 2021. He married Patricia Allphin April 6, 1963, and they were blessed to celebrate over 58 years of marriage. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1959 and Kansas Wesleyan Univ. in 1963.

Brian taught in Morganville and Miltonvale High Schools in Kansas before they moved to Bellingham, WA where he completed his Master of Science in Mathematics from Western Washington University in 1969. He taught for 30 years at Highline Community College, Des Moines, WA. Much of his retirement was spent traveling, having gone to 12 different countries as well as 47 of the U.S. states. Brian had many hobbies to keep him busy including stain glass, watercolor painting, his bonsai plants, and being a member of a woodcarving club.

Brian is survived by his wife, Pat, and children: Deborah (Dave) Brannan, Eric (Laurel) Hogan, and Tricia Larson. Brian and Pat were blessed with grandchildren: Jackie (Alex) Accornero, Jackson Hogan, Jeramy (Gloria) Runkles, Abby Hogan, Bailee Larson and Riley Larson. In 2003 they added two more granddaughters: Alicia (David) O’Donnell and Kaila Brannan. They also have four great grandchildren: Victoria and Luella Runkles, Ford and Alora Accornero with Sophie due in November. Brian is also survived by his brother Bruce (Susanna) Hogan, his sister-in-law DeeAnn Dickerson, and their extended families. In 1987-88 school year Brian and Pat gained a Swiss daughter, Patrizia Jud, and have remained close to her and her family, including traveling to Switzerland and France to visit them.

A celebration of Brian’s 80th birthday was held in the family home on Monday, 9/13. Graveside services will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in Beloit, KS Memorial Day weekend, on May 29, 2022. Time to be announced later. A scholarship memorial is being established at Beloit High School for a graduate going on to college majoring in Mathematics and/or Science.
