Allen Edwin Fisher, 83, Downs

DOWNS – Allen Edwin Fisher, 83, of Downs, Kan., passed away July 24, 2022, after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He was born March 14, 1939, to Nora (Ahlvers) and Edwin Fisher on their farm in Glen Elder, Kan.

Allen’s family and four children grew up three miles southeast of Cawker City. In 1943 Allen lost his father Edwin in a farming accident which led to Nora selling the farm to move in with Fred and Louis Ahlvers.

In the summer of 1944 they then moved to Glen Elder where Allen attended 12 years of school and in 1956 worked for Smoke Casey until February 1963. At that time he was drafted into the US Army. Allen served one year in Vietnam from May of 1964 to May 1965, one year in Germany, and one year in Ft. Stony, Va. Allen was honorably discharged from the Army in December of 1966.

In 1967 he married and to the union Terry and Allen Jr. were born. He later remarried and had four stepchildren.

Survivors include his children: Terry (Doug) Haws, Allen (Jennifer) Fisher; stepchildren, Kevin Sullivan, Kathy McCart, Kirk (Jeana) Sullivan, and Kent Sullivan; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and sister, Becky Marzolf.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Glenwood Cemetery, Glen Elder.
