Amelia Fueser-Scraper, 85, Topeka
TOPEKA – Amelia Isabel Scraper was born on the family farm near Tipton on April 6, 1938 to Henry G. and Elizabeth (Hake) Fueser. She passed from this life August 29, 2023, 85 years of age, peacefully, in her sleep and pain free at last.
Amelia and her family moved to Beloit during the 1940’ s. She attended St. John’ s Catholic School and worked at the Hageman Café, the 24 Grill, and the Country Club. She met her future husband, Joseph Scraper Sr., while working as a waitress in downtown Beloit.
Joseph and Amelia were wed on August 29, 1956 at St. John’ s Church in Beloit. Surviving are their six children: Elizabeth A. Harper (Jim), Joe F. Scraper Jr., Susan A. Bradley (Ron), Diana F. King (David), James L. Scraper (Stacy), Stephanie J. Shelley (Brad).
Additionally, Amelia is survived by nine grandchildren; Travis Harper, Sara Dreher, and Kate Harper; Nicholas Scraper; Nathan Bradley; Ethan, Bethany, and Ryan King; and Brianna Daniels, ten greatgrandchildren. And three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Coralee Budke of Beloit, and many nieces and nephews.
Amelia was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Tyler Bradley. Her brothers and sisters; Maryetta (Mrs. Marcus Crannell); Francis Fueser; Luella (Mrs. Linus Weber); Bill Fueser; and Elizabeth Marie Fueser, who died in infancy.
To those who knew her best, she was one of the most gentle and loving souls to walk this earth. Jesus said to love our friends and neighbors, Amelia fulfilled that to the fullest degree with everyone she met.
She was a devout Catholic, who loved the Lord and prayed often for all her family and friends. She adored her books, but most of all she loved her country music and hymns. She was a natural singer from an early age, which she inherited from her father, who also sang. She took voice lessons from Sister Anastasia at St. Johns. With her beautiful voice she sang at every opportunity, at home, at school, and at church. She sang whenever and wherever she could all her life right until her last years when her throat problems prevented her from doing so. Much to our delight and amazement, during her last days, the Lord restored her beautiful voice and she joyfully sang for hours on end.
She cherished visits from family at the nursing home, and treasured hearing from all her loved ones from her early days in Tipton and Beloit.
The family wishes to thank St. Croix Hospice of Topeka for their wonderful care of our mother during her last months.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit. Visitation will be from 10 am until the service begins. Memorials may be given to the St. John’ s Catholic Church or St. John’ s Education Fund. Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
