Carolyn Elisabeth Schoen, 79, Pratt

PRATT – Carolyn Elisabeth Schoen, 79, passed away October 22, 2021 in Pratt, Kansas with her family by her side.

She was born February 15, 1942 in Independence to R. Rowe Meats and Elisabeth Murray Meats.

Carolyn married Al Schoen December 27, 1965 at the First United Methodist Church, Beloit Kansas. They were married for 55 years.

She was a graduate of Beloit High School in 1960. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science. She achevied her Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Fort Hays State University. She began her teaching career in Denver, Colorado in 1964. She taught in Ellis, Kansas for 6 years. Before establishing roots in Pratt, Kansas. During her 31 years as a Greenback, she taught English, Speech, and facilitated the Gifted Program before retiring in 2004. She had a love for learning and helping others learn.

Carolyn had many passions including reading, gardening, antiquing, furniture refinishing and completing puzzles.

She also enjoyed spending time with her family, including 3 grandsons.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, R. Rowe and Elisabeth Meats. her Parents-in-law, Eldon and Lucille Schoen, sister-in-Law Vicki Meats. Brothers-In-Law Ken Smith and Gary Schoen.

She is survived by her husband Al; her children; Spence (Joan) Schoen, Kansas City, MO, Lance (Becca) Schoen, Lenexa, KS, Shelli (Mike) Gill, Mont Belvieu, TX, Brother; Bob Meats, Beloit, KS, Sister-in-Law, Rose Smith, Holton, Ks. and grandchildren, Jacob, Jaxon and Andrew.

Cremation has taken place.

Visitation will be 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday, October 25, 2021 at Larrison Mortuary 300 Country Club Rd. Pratt, Kansas.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Larrison Mortuary, Ltd., Pratt with, John Hamm presiding.

Memorials may be made to Pratt Public Library or Lemon Park Christmas Lights in care of Larrison Mortuary.
