Dan Geist, 73, Glen Elder

GLEN ELDER - On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Danny Lee Geist, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 73.

Dan was bom in Concordia, KS to Calvin and Cleo (Gibson) Geist, he was the youngest of three brothers. During his younger years he lived outside of Miltonvale, his family later moved to Bennington where he attended high school. He married Tana Knarr in 1970 and they raised two children, Nikole and Todd. The young couple made their home in Salina, later moving to Delphos, and then Glen Elder. While living in Salina Dan was a firefighter for the Salina Fire Dept. He was very proud of being a firefighter and helping his community, later after moving to Delphos he continued this service as a volunteer firefighter. Dan was very community minded and was a member of many community clubs and also a board member for the town of Glen Elder. Along with his brothers, he organized an annual fishing tournament for family and friends that lasted for over 40 years. Shortly after moving to Glen Elder, Dan found his calling as a car salesman. This was a career that he loved as he was able to meet many people and become a part of his customer’s lives. He had many repeat customers during his 17 years career, and created meaningful and longstanding friendships. “Dan Geist, Beloit Auto and Truck Plaza” license plate covers have been seen on 1 ,000’s of vehicles across Kansas and surrounding states. In his later years, Dan discovered a talent for painting and lovingly created beautiful works of art for family and friends. Several of his paintings can be seen in local businesses and he won several blue and purple ribbons for his entries at the county fair. His quick wit and infectious smile will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Dan was proceeded in death by his father Calvin and mother Cleo, sisters-in-law Lavonne and Kay Geist. He is survived by his wife Tana, his children Nikole (Dustin) and Todd, his four grandchildren Akira, Leah, Devin (Kateri), and Abby, his brothers Ron and Rich (Lorraine), a niece and several nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Glen Elder Methodist Church at 2:00 PM. Refreshments for family and friends following the interment at the Glen Elder Cemetery. Flowers and memorial donations may be sent to Solomon Valley Transport or the Glen Elder United Methodist Church.
