Dorothy May Belden, 97, Beloit

BELOIT – Steve and Stan Belden sadly announce the passing of their mother, Dorothy May Belden. Dorothy went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2022. She was 97 years, 6 months and 28 days young. By her side at the time of her death was Stan, his wife Connie; and Steve.

Dorothy was one of ten children. She spent most of her early years in Osborne, Kansas. She met a young man from Beloit who would become the love of her life. Lyle R. Belden and Dorothy were married on February 15, 1942.

Following Lyle's discharge from the Army Air Corps, at the end of WW II, he and Dorothy moved to a farm five miles south of Beloit, on Highway 14. They and their two sons lived and worked the farm for 23 years.

There was not a task on the farm that Dorothy would shy away from. She milked cows, raised a large garden, dressed over 100 chickens each year, painted the farm house and often fed up to a dozen neighbors during harvest season. Dorothy was always proud of her husband's successful development of a pedigreed registered Black Angus cow and calf business.

Unfortunately, Lyle's health dictated the sale of their land and cattle in 1968. Dorothy took the next step in their life's journey with commitment and determination. Together they managed apartments, motels, and restaurants until they retired and moved to Arizona in 1980.

Dorothy has lived on her own, in a Sun City condo, since the passing of her husband in 2003. Over many years, Dorothy would embroidery 100 or more tea towels as Christmas gifts for family and friends. She attended many sporting events, recitals and other school functions of her grandsons and greatgrandchildren. Dorothy loved dogs and often spent time with the four-legged family members of her sons and grandsons.

Dorothy was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, mother-in-law, sister and aunt. Those left to mourn her loss and celebrate her life is her son Stan (Connie) of Glendale, AZ; son Steve of Peoria, AZ; grandson Terry (Sherri) of Scottsdale, AZ; grandson Matt (Christi) of Peoria, AZ; her three great-grandchildren Brody, Bryce and Bria (Terry & Sherri) of Scottsdale, AZ; brother Dean (Ermalea) of Wichita, KS; brother Ron (Mary) of Richmond, KY; brother Don (Joyce) of Derby, KS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service was held at Phoenix Memorial Park Cemetery, 200 Beardsley Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85027, at 2pm (AZ time) on Friday, May 20, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would love for you to donate to her favorite senior dog rescue:
