Doug Daugherty, 74, Beloit
BELOIT - On the morning of September 1, 2023, heaven gained a kind and loving soul. Douglas Raymond Daugherty, son of Calvin and Annette Daugherty, age 74, peacefully passed away after a period of declining health. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Deanna Vossman, and leaves behind a legacy of love and family. His memory lives on through his two daughters: Denise (Mike) Gracik, along with their children Ellison and Drew; Deidra (Eric) Burks, along with their children Blaine (fiancee Porsche), Hannah (Aaron) Dlabal, Hayley, Braden, and Kyler; and one son, Darin Daugherty, along with his children Jordyn and Finley. Douglas is also survived by his caring sisters, Calita (Bob) Niland and Phyllis (Mike) Liggett, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cherished inlaws, and a wide circle of friends.
Doug was born on March 23, 1949, in Mitchell County and lived and worked most of his life in the area. He joined the Beloit Policc Force in 1972 where he served as an officer and later as Chief of Police. Although he worked for a short time for the railroad, his love for law enforcement drew him back and he was elected sheriff in 1984 where he served the people for Mitchell County for 32 years, until his retirement in 2017.
Doug wasn’t always perfect, but he loved his family deeply. Whatever came their way, he and Dee made it work. His love for his children and grandchildren knew no bounds. He was always ready to chcer them on, finding his greatest joy in their successes. He gave that same love to his sisters, family, and friends. Some of his fondest memories were of hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. Doug and Dee shared their love of dancing. As a dedicated law enforcement officer, he saw his colleagues not just as coworkers but as friends and fellow servants to their community. Doug’s commitment to the community he served was unwavering, and he found deep fulfillment in his role as Douglas Raymond Daugherty a protector and a friend to all.
Welcoming him to his heavenly home are an infant brother, his parents, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
Doug leaves behind much love and memories in the hearts of his family and many friends.
Funeral services were at 10 AM Wednesday, September 6 at the St. John’s Catholic Church followed by burial in Seottsville Cemetery.
