Eugene Mathias Eck

BELOIT - Eugene Mathias Eck, Beloit KS, passed away Friday, September 23, 2022 at the age of 100, at Hilltop Lodge.

Eugene was bom July 29, 1922 to Frank Eck and Rose (Wessling) Eck on the family farm south of Beloit. He attended Shutts County school until 8th grade. He started working and farming at a very young age. When the depression hit his parents lost their farm. Eugene worked even harder taking on whatever jobs that were available, and was eventually able to buy back the farm for his family. He cherished and considered the area around Beloit to be “ Gods Country.” He always said that he was just a steward of the land, doing God's work.

He is preceded in death by his parents Rose and Frank Eck, brothers; Edward, Gerald, and infant brother Albert Eck, and sister, Loretta (Eck) Coffelt.

Eugene is survived by his brothers; Alfred Eck of Beloit, Donald Eck of Beloit. Nieces; Ielene Haynes of Beloit, Carmen (Charles) Marsh of Dallas TX, nephews; Ralph (Diane) Pahls of Beloit, Michael (Heidi) Pahls of Beloit, many nieces, nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

He was a man of God, a hardworking farmer, a great brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 67 p.m. with a vigil rosary service beginning at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept 28. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, all at the former Dollar General Building due to the construction at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment will follow mass at St. John's Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Solomon Valley Hospice and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Schoen Funeral Home and Monuments in care of arrangements.
