Gwendolyn Emily Porter, 79, Portland, Oregon

PORTLAND, ORE. – Gwen died the morning of Saturday, September 25th, 2021. She had survived a minor and major stroke that occurred two days after returning from her bucket list trip to Hawaii with family. After moving to long-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation non-profit near her family, she had another major stroke that ended her life.

Gwen was born on the family farm a few miles southwest of Glen Elder. She attended school in Glen Elder, graduating in 1960 from Glen Elder High. After high school, she moved to Portland, Oregon where for a time, she lived with her Uncle Vaden and Aunt Dorothy. While working and attending college, she met and married Leonard Green Sr. They had two sons, Lennie and Vaden. This marriage dissolved after 14 years. Later, she married Dale Huntsman and divorced after 16 years of marriage.

Gwen worked as an office manager for the Veteran’ s Administration Hospital and after an early retirement, she ran her own medical transcription business from home. Eventually, she moved to Yuma, Arizona. After enjoying the warm weather, she returned to Oregon to be closer to her two sons and her grandchildren living in the coastal community of Tillamook, Oregon. In 2018, she moved back to Portland, Oregon to live with her son, Vaden Green, and his family.

Gwen was preceded in death by her son Lennie Green, parents Ernest and Marjorie Porter and her sisters Audrey (Porter) Neifert and Dorothy “ Sue” Porter and her husband Dale Huntsman. She is survived by her brother Frank Porter, son Vaden Green, daughter-in-law Olivia Green, grandchildren Nathaniel Green, Miles Green and Anadine Green.

Gwen’ s memorial is being held in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, October 16th, 2021 for those in close proximity.

Her family is planning to bring her remains back to Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder, Kansas to be buried alongside her parents and other family members. A second service will be held in Kansas. The timeline for the Kansas service is not currently known, the date will be provided to those in the area and posted on her Facebook account.
