John Q. Hupfer

SALINA – John Q. Hupfer passed away peacefully at home on May 22nd 2023 at the age of 83. John was born on June 12th 1939 to Clarence J and Mildred I (Stumpff) Hupfer on the family farm south of Bunker Hill, Kansas John graduated from Dorrance High School in 1957. He was in the Army Reserve unit in Great Bend and was active duty in the Army. After being medically discharged he operated Johnnie’s Vickers station in Russell, Kansas. After the station closed he worked in the oil fields, later owning and operating his own mechanics shop along with selling Pioneer Seed and Master Mix feed in Hunter, Kansas . After moving to Salina in 1981 he worked for Orkin Pest Control as an inspector until his retirement.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, going to auctions and the casinos, and looked forward to the annual family garage sale. When his health started to decline he still took pride in his yard spending many hours mowing and maintaining it. His biggest pride was his family and he loved them with all his heart.

John is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Dixie, sons: Russ Hupfer (Paula) of Beloit, Kansas and Doug Murphy (Sherri) of Salina, Kansas and daughters: Terri Hupfer of Isleton, California, Teena Hupfer of Denver, Colorado, and Renee Foster, of Salina, Kansas: 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Clayton and Dennis, sisters Aleta Katt, Delene Gilmore and infant sister Beverly, son in law Randy Foster and great grandson Tyler Foster.

A celebration of life will be June 17th at 11:00 am at Higher Praise Church, 1220 Greeley Ave, Salina, Kansas with a lunch reception to follow.
