Maxine A. Heinen, 100, Salina

SALINA – Maxine A. Heinen, 100, Salina, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021. She was surrounded by her family who cared for, loved and walked her final journey with her.

Maxine was born May 9, 1921 to Paul and Anna (Frank) LaRocque in Cawker City, KS. She grew up on their family farm in Cawker City and attended a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. She went on to graduate from Concordia High School. Maxine attended Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison for two years. After deciding to become a nurse, she graduated from St. Francis Hospital in Wichita as a Registered Nurse.

Maxine worked in Wichita before marrying her husband, Paul, in 1944. While living in Beloit, Maxine worked as a private duty nurse and at the Mitchell County Hospital.

Upon retirement in 1974, Paul and Maxine moved to Salina where they resided until their passing. During retirement they enjoyed their time traveling together. Maxine also enjoyed doing volunteer work at Hospice of Salina and quilting with St. Mary's quilting circle.

Paul, her husband of 73 years, passed away in 2018 at the age of 102. Maxine was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carol, in 2003, her great-grandchild, Alex, her parents, three brothers, Fr. Benedict, Gene and Lawrence LaRocque and one sister, Dorothy LaRocque.

Lutgen of Grand Junction, CO, Patricia Heinen of Taos, NM, Joe (Kim) Heinen of

Austin, TX, and Diane (Tom) O'Neill of Salina, KS, special friends Cathy Boyle and Gary Anderson, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren with one on the way, and her sister Theresa Wehkamp.

Services will begin with a Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for Masses or to Hospice of Salina.
