Richard “Dick” Stover, 80, Beloit

Richard 'Dick” Stover

BELOIT - Richard “Dick” Stover was born July 16, 1942 in Beloit, Ks. to Henry and Margaret Stover. He peacefully left this world at 3:15 p.m. April 14th, 2023 at Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home Beloit, Ks. at the age of 80 years old. He had 2 older siblings, sister Johanna and brother John “A!” and a younger brother Thomas.

Dick grew up in Beloit and attended grade and high school at St. John’s Catholic School graduating with the class of 1960. He was active in football, basketball, and track and loved to play baseball in the summer and was a big LA Dodgers fan.

Following graduation, he attended K-State for a year followed by Fort Hays State for a semester. He worked during the winters for Farmway Coop for several years but his true love was farming. He took over the family farm with his brother A1 after his dad passed away. Even in the last few years of his life, he loved to talk farming and going for a ride to see how the crops were doing. Dick joined the National Guards and was very proud to have served his country. He has been a faithful and lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church and even when out of town, always found a church to attend. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dick has always been a true sports fan. He and his brother A1 were Chiefs season ticket holders for forty years. He drove all over the state to watch basketball whether he knew anyone playing or not. Dick was a walking encyclopedia of sports knowledge and loved following his nieces and nephews and even great nieces and nephews throughout their high school and college sports careers. Dick had quite a collection of sports cards and Sports Illustrated magazines.

Dick loved to gamble and was known to fly to Las Vegas every year either by himself or with his brother Tom or other friends. Dick also enjoyed the horse races in Grand Island and local casinos with friends.

Dick never married or had kids of his own so his family was extremely important to him. He had a great relationship with his siblings, nieces and nephews, and also his great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Margaret Stover, sister-in-law Janice Stover, brother-in-law Kenny Peters, nephew Dennis Stover, and great nephew Jake Bowers. He is survived by his sister Johanna Peters of Wichita, brother A1 Stover of Beloit, brother Tom and wife Karen Stover of Beloit, and many nieces and nephews. Dick was a very generous supporter and his life impacted many. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Wednesday, April 19 at the temporary St. John's Catholic Church location (former Dollar General Building), Mr. Stover died Friday, April 14 at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit. A rosary service will be at 7 PM Tuesday, & visitation will be from 1 PM until the rosary service begins at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the St. John’s Restoration Project or St. John’s Schools. Roberts Family Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements.
