Thomas Leo Gengler

TOPEKA – Thomas Leo Gengler, 70, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Tom was born April 2, 1952, in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Sylvester and Helen Budke Gengler. He graduated in 1970 from St. Johns High School in Beloit and earned his undergraduate and master’ s degrees from Fort Hayes State University. Tom was the executive director of nursing facilities though-out Kansas. In retirement, he enjoyed his work at Walmart visiting with the customers.

Tom and Barbara Hesse were united in marriage July 20, 2003, enjoying more than 19 years together.

Tom loved woodworking, making beautiful furniture as well as personalized pieces for his family and friends. He loved a good joke and was fun to be around.

Grateful to have shared Tom’ s life are his wife, Barbara; children, Brandon Gengler (Jacqueline), Seth Gengler (Jessica), Kelsie Gengler (Jimmy Winkler), Ryan Weaver and John Weaver; 14 grandchildren; siblings, Stan Gengler (Johanna) Charlotte Campbell (Terry), Pat Gengler, Tim Gengler (Laraine), Mike Gengler (Carol) and Beth Davies (Scott); brother-inlaw, Randy Umscheid; sisterin- law Jane Gengler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dan and Dennis, his sister, Kathy Umscheid and a greatgranddaughter, Mia.

A Celebration of Tom’ s life will be held at a later date.
