BELOIT – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) on around 1:20 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018. County Emergency Management Director Rick Horn said the test will assess the operational readiness of the IPAWS infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine if technological improvements are needed. The EAS test will be conducted in conjunction with radio, television, and cable operators in all U.S. states, territories and tribal lands, and the WEA test will take place in coordination with participating wireless providers. This will be the first nationwide IPAWS WEA test.

CAWKER CITY – Anchor/ Reporter Stephanie Bergmann’s Mainstreet Kansas story from the Ball of Time 2018 Twine a Thon will air on the KSN /Wichita news station on noon, Friday.

BELOIT – The VFW Post 6242 will be serving breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, at the VFW home 102 E. South street, Beloit. Hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage, Belgian waffles, biscuits and gravy, fruit, coffee and juice will be served with free will donations.

BELOIT – The Beloit Senior Center, 220 N. Hersey, will offer BINGO from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 13, with Early Bird BINGO games to run at 6:15.

BELOIT – Final preparations for completing the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) kits and quilts are now being finalized with a work day at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 621 N. Mill, Beloit.

Women of the ELCA will fill school kits at their Wednesday, Sept. 19 meeting.

Materials for 160 school kits are ready and all items are packed in boxes and ready to pack.

The boxes will be sent to Salina on Thursday, Oct. 11 to meet the trucks going to the LWR warehouses.

Blessing of the items will be held at Zion on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6. All persons are welcome to attend the worship services.

BELOIT – The Solomon Valley Transportation (SVT) are offering rides for two upcoming events.

They will offer a trip to the Kansas State Fair, leaving at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from the Beloit Senior Center.

This is a first come first serve 12 passenger offer with a minimum suggested donation of $15 per person.

An offer to the Senior Fair, will be leaving at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept.

The trip is a first come first served offer to the first 10 passengers that call. The minimum suggested donation for the trip is $8 per person.

BELOIT — Friendship Meals will be held on Sept. 10 by the Fellowship Dinner Team. It will consist of lasagna, corn, fruit cocktail and dessert. Serving is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of Bell and 8th street in Beloit. A free will donation is welcome.
