MCHHS celebrates HIP week in Beloit

BELOIT – Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems (MCHHS) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) will honor and celebrate Health Information Professionals (HIP) week September 14-18 through this year’s theme “Health Information Professionals: Connecting People, Systems and Ideas.”

The celebration will be held in conjunction with the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference. The HIP week was originally scheduled for March but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As our healthcare ecosystem continues to evolve, health information professionals remain committed to the principles of delivering the best patient care through the use of high-quality data that transforms health and healthcare,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “The pandemic has shone a light on their contributions, and I can’t wait to acknowledge their efforts during HIP Week at AHIMA20.”

During HIP week, health information professionals engage in focused activities in their organizations and the community to raise awareness of the important work they perform, while health systems often recognize the accomplishments of their health information team during the designated week.

The MCHHS Health Information Department (HIM) consists of eight employees who work together to assure that our hospital has quality data and complete medical records according to CMS and Kansas State guidelines. The staff works closely with physicians and nursing staff, as well as, many other departments at MCHHS to meet goals and to provide patients with medical records as needed. Protecting privacy through compliance with HIPAA guidelines is the number one priority with all of the staff. The HIM Department provides release of information, ICD10-CM, PCS and CPT coding, record analysis, transcription editing, and scanning of records. The department is staffed with two registered nurses who manage Utilization Review and case management, while working diligently with all types of insurance payors.
