Cruise the Blues to celebrate 100th heritage on Saturday

Doug and Tracey Palen of rural Tipton have hosted the Cruise the Blues (CTB) Mountain Bike Festival on their farm on their farm for the past 18 years. The Palen’s have always loved and appreciated their historic farm. They have made great efforts to understand its early history and the Gaston Family, who homesteaded in 1878. It was then known as Gaston’s Grove. The Gastons, like the Palen’s, believed that the farm should be shared with family and friends. In the early years, “Gaston’s Grove” became known as a gathering place for numerous events, the largest being their annual Fourth of July Celebration. It drew hundreds of people from the area who spent the day enjoying baseball games, potato sack races, political speakers, live music, and even outdoor movies. The Palen’s were very surprised to discover that in 1922, the festivities also included bicycle races. They plan to celebrate this unique 100 year heritage at this year’s Cruise the Blues festival on Saturday, Aug. 27.
