Eva Holdren receives her Kansas Assessment test award from Bishop Gerald Vinke and Superintendent Geoff Andrews during a recent St. John’ s/Tipton football game held in Beloit. These students who performed at the top two levels were recognized during the recent home football game in Beloit. Level 3 shows an effective ability and Level 4 shows an excellent ability to understand and use the skills and knowledge needed for college and career readiness. See more details on page 3.

Steve Krier (front) and Craig Cousland donate blood at the Beloit Community American Red Cross Blood Drive, held on Oct. 12-13 at the North Central Kansas Technical College gymnasium. The Beloit financial institutions were the sponsors, with each institution having drawings for the donors to sign up for. The winners included: First Bank of Beloit $50.00 Beloit Chamber Bucks – Debby Abram; Solomon Valley Bank Bubba Q gift certificate – Carol Torkelson; Guaranty State Bank $50.00 Visa Gift Card – Christian Daniels; Farmway Credit Union $25.00 Visa Gift card – Mike Riemann and Dru Emmot; Central National Bank of Beloit $25.00 gift certficate to Kettle – Tori Bowers. Thanks to blood donors, there was 52 units collected on Thursday, and 39 units collected on Friday.

8th Annual Wakonda Indian Festival

A crowd attended the 8th Annual Wakonda Indian Festival on Oct. 7, 2023 at the Glen Elder State Park, interacting in Native American dances by Greg Victors (above right) and the Ron Brave family (above middle). Indian tacos were served and children enjoyed the inside teepee storytelling (above left) and crafts. A juvenile eagle greeted with a fly over the area while drummers/singers were providing for the dancers. Next years ninth annual event will fall on Oct. 5, 2024.
