Beloit volleyball ladies end as State Runners-Up

Finish as League champions at 41-4 for new school record of most wins

BELOIT – The Beloit High School Volleyball ladies ended their season at 41-4 to break their own school record for the most wins as they captured the 3A State Volleyball Runners-Up title.

"As a coach I could not be more satisfied with our season," said Beloit Coach Brandy Paul. "It was another record breaking year with a wonderful bunch of girls. These girls set their expectations high for the season and accomplished their goals throughout the season; going 12-0 to capture the NCAA League title, placing first at the SES and Republic County tournaments, battling to win Sub-Sate, breaking the school record for most wins, and finishing second at State."

Coach Paul has taken her teams to state four years out of seven. This was the highest finish as second at State. In 2015 they placed fourth and in 2017 they didn't advance. They placed third in 2018.

Beloit played undefeated on Friday in Pool Play 1 at 3-0 when they defeated Burlington; defeated Phillipsburg and Cheney to advance into the semi-finals on Saturday. Beloit defeated the State returning Silver Lake team in the semifinals to advance into the championship game.

"The Silver Lake win was a huge key accomplishment for our team at State," said Paul.

They fell short to Royal Valley for the Runners-Up title.

In Friday's opening state games, Beloit defeated Burlington in game one in two sets of 25-19 and 25-15.

Leading the team from behind the line was Makenzie Travis scoring 9 points; Trista Boeve 6 points, 1 ace serve; Jaimie Drum 5 points, 3 ace serves; Hanna Pearson and Jessica Meier 4 points, 1 ace each.

Shea Larson led the team at the net with 10 kills, 1 stuff; Paige Goddard 7 kills, 2 blocks, 3 stuffs; Pearson 6 kills, 3 blocks, 3 stuffs; Travis 2 kills, 1 block; Meier 1 kill, 3 blocks,3 stuffs; Boeve 1 kill, 2 blocks, 1 stuff.

Meier and Travis teamed up for 11 assists each.

Drum led the floor with 10 digs, 7 serve receives; Travis 6 digs, 4 receives; Goddard 4 digs; Meier 3 digs, 6 receives; Boeve 2 digs, 3 receives; Darby Odle 3 receives; Pearson 1 dig.

Lady Trojans defeated Phillipsburg in two sets of 25-12 and 25-21 in game two.

Leading Beloit from behind the line was Drum scoring 6 points, 1 ace; Travis and Meier 4 points, 1 ace each; Boeve 4 points; Pearson 3 points; Larson 2 points.

Larson led at the net with 10 kills, 1 block, 2 stuffs; Boeve 8 kills; Pearson 6 kills, 3 blocks, 2 stuffs; Goddard 6 kills; Travis 1 kill, 1 block, 1 stuff; Drum 1 kill; Meier 1 block, 1 stuff.

Meier led with 19 assist followed by Travis with 13.

Travis led the team on the floor with 11 digs, 2 receives; Drum 10 digs, 5 receives; Meier 7 digs, 3 receives; Boeve 6 digs, 7 receives; Odle 6 digs; 9 receives; Larson 2 digs; Pearson 1 dig.

Beloit defeated Cheney in two sets of 25-18 and 25-23 in game three to advance into the semi-finals on Saturday.

Pearson led in scoring with 6 points; Meier 5 points; Boeve 3 points; Drum 2 points; Travis and Larson 1 point each.

Larson led at the net with 15 kills, 1 stuff; Goddard 9 kills, 2 stuffs; Pearson 7 kills, 2 blocks, 4 stuffs; Boeve 5 kills, 2 blocks, 2 stuffs; Meier 1 kill; Travis 3 blocks, 1 stuff.

Meier set up the plays with 18 assists; Travis 15 assists.

Drum led big on the floor with 21 digs, 16 serve receives; Meier 12 digs, 12 receives; Odle 10 digs, 5 receives; Travis 6 digs, 11 receives; Boeve 4 digs, 14 receives; Goddard 4 digs; Larson 2 digs.
