Beloit Cross Country opens in Concordia

CONCORDIA – The Beloit Trojans traveled to Concordia for their first meet of the season. In the first race Beloit competed in, seventh grader Rilee Lundine finished strong to take the third spot in the one mile race. Rilee finished with a time of 6:26 just a few seconds behind the winner. The girls race saw three Trojan senior girls competing. Jenna Balluch was the sixth place medalist with a time of 23:05. Both Abby Porter and Ariana Armstrong finished 13th and 20th respectively. Junior Lance Lundine finished as runner-up in the boys JV/Varsity combined 5K race with a time of 18:01. Other competitors for the Trojans included Brogan Monty 13th, Raiden Gilley 22nd, Kade Pearson 24th, Mason Thompson 29th and Colton Jeardoe 38th. The boys finished in third place behind Clay Center and meet champions, Beloit St. John’ s. The next competition for the Trojans will be Tuesday at Salina Sacred Heart for the Junior High and Hesston for the High School squad.

St. John’ s Cross Country boys earn opening championship

CONCORDIA – The St. John's Blujays Cross Country teams opened their season at the Concordia Invitational on Thursday Sept. 1. Other teams participating included Beloit, Concordia, Clay Center, Minneapolis, Phillipsburg, Republic County, and Valley Heights. The first varsity race of the day was the girls. There are three members of the St. John’s girls team this year; including Senior Jane Letourneau, Junior Emma Mick, and Sophomore Clare Meyer. Two of the Lady Jays runners medaled. Letourneau led the team with a fourth place finish in a time of 22:14 followed by Mick in eighth.

St. John’ s/Tipton volleyball opens season undefeated

OSBORNE – The St. John’ s/Tipton Lady Blujays opened their season at Osborne on Friday and are now 3-0 going into their next host quadrangular on Sept. 6 in Beloit with Chase, Southern Cloud and Pike Valley. The Lady Jays came out strong winning all three sets over Osborne for the 3-0 win on Aug. 26. They won their first match at 25-16, second at 26-24 and their third match at 25-18. Leading St. John’ s/Tipton in attacks at the net with 6 kills and 1 block was Sophia Thompson. Senior Ella Wiles added 3 kills and 4 blocks; Carlie Brummer 2 kills, 1 block; Jenna Gengler 2 kills; Senior Katie Brummer 1 kill.
