City of Beloit projects progress grows

Beloit City Administrator Jason Rabe provided the City Councilors with an update during Wednesday’s mostly meeting, on the various major projects in which the city is involved. He said the Water Treatment Plant project is experiencing the regular difficulties of such projects governed by State oversight. He believes there may be a delay in the letting of bid, but with the accelerated cost of everything in the world of building things, a delay may not be necessarily a bad thing.

Beloit NCKTC to gain PN and RN programs

BELOIT – North Central Kansas Technical College (NCK Tech) is proud to announce starting in Fall 2022, it will now offer a Practical Nursing (PN) and Registered Nursing (RN) program on the Beloit campus. “ We are excited to being offering our current and future students the opportunity to advance their education and achieve an Associate Degree in Nursing,” said Melissa Crump, Director of Nursing. Now is an exciting time to enter the nursing profession. Nurses are in high demand, and we hope that by offering the RN educational pathway we can help fill some of this need.

American White Pelicans appear on county pond

A pod of American White Pelicans have been spotted on a Mitchell County pond recently as they live on inland shallow freshwater lakes, wet prairies and marshes in the summer. During their mating season in March or April; nesting starts between early April or June. Both males and females develop a pronounced bump on the top of their large beaks which they shed after breeding season ends. Red foxes and Coyotes are predators to the adult pelicans while Great Horned Owls, Red-Tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles pry on the young. The pelicans are a protected migratory bird. Decorating with murals

Director of the Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce, Julia Rabe, and Emily Benedick, Economic Development Director presented the commissioners, during Monday morning’s Mitchell County Commissioners meeting, about a new project they are working on. The activity of decorating local structures with murals has gained great popularity around Kansas and other midwestern states. They referred to murals now decorating the city of Clay Center as a local example of mural artwork.
