Jewell, Kansas is in the Buffalo Valley with the East, Middle and West Branches of Buffalo Creek flowing nearby. Though now only six blocks long, Buffalo Street is one of the east-west streets in the north part of Jewell. The town is also situated in Jewell County’s Buffalo Township.

Students in Jeff Bates’ Personal Finance class at St, John’s High School finished in the top three among high school students in Kansas competing in The Stock Market Game for the October-April session this year, Daniel gilert finished in second place, growing his $100,000 initial investment to $123,534,28 over the course of the school year, Jacob Winkler finished in third place, growing his portfolio to $114,439.70 during the trading session. Both students will receive T-shirts and other items from the Kansas Council on Economic Education, the group that makes The Stock Market Game available for free to all Kansas middle and high school students,
