Childcare concerns discussed at SVED forum

GLEN ELDER – In April 2022, over 20 families in Mitchell County learned three childcare providers would be shutting their doors by the end of May. With dozens of children currently on waiting lists for childcare with existing providers in our county, the families losing childcare are left with literally no alternatives for care. In response to the developing childcare crisis in Mitchell County, Solomon Valley Economic Development hosted a Mitchell County Community Childcare Forum on Monday, May 2, at the Glen Elder American Legion building. With a crowd of over 40 in attendance, the meeting was led by Emily Benedick, SVED Director, Betsy Wearing, Dane G Hansen Foundation Coordinator of Communications, Programs and New Initiatives, and Betty Johnson, Dane G Hansen Foundation Strategic Doing Consultant and President of Betty Johnson & Associates.
